The Academic Resource Center (ARC) helps students become active learners, who can reason clearly, speak and write persuasively, and lead with integrity. To support continued academic growth and effective learning among all Sweet Briar students, the ARC offers peer tutoring in writing and by academic discipline, works with faculty to provide workshops and other support tailored to their needs and the needs of their students, and maintains learning resources for student use. We encourage you to schedule an appointment, but walk-ins are always welcome! Fall 2009 schedule is coming soon. The ARC is located on the "garden level" (ground, or lower level) of the Chapel. Services at the ARC are provided by student associates chosen for their academic qualifications and their ability to work well with others. Peer tutors must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate excellent writing and oral communication skills. All peer tutors are required to complete the 1-credit practicum offered in the Fall semester by the English Department, "Tutoring Writing: Theory and Practice." Tutors use a facilitative, non-evaluative approach to tutoring.
